Uploading, managing and sharing videos in SharePoint is simple and easy as 1-2-3.

Companies these days need to share more than just documents. From training materials to commercials, companies are accumulating rich media like videos quickly. While SharePoint is pretty good at storing a lot of things, video and audio files have their own needs. We've created the SharePoint Video Library so you can create a centralized location for not only storing videos, but for playing them back and sharing them as well. The SharePoint Video Library provides several advantages over a standard Document Library, such as:

• An embedded video/audio player that supports multiple file types.
• The ability to capture and display media metadata (e.g. file type, duration, resolution etc.).
• Display of video thumbnails.
• Storage of media within the library, or linked to using external sources.
• Ability to share links to videos, or embed them into another page.

The SharePoint Video Library provides users with a simple but powerful library that is custom made for storing media. Authorized users can upload or link to video and audio files in a variety of formats and locations, while other users can view details (like resolution and length), and playback the content from within the library using the embedded player. Bamboo's SharePoint Video Library lets you centralize and organize your company's rich media the way it was meant to be. 

What does it do?

• The SharePoint Video Library has the following features:

  • Automatically play a video or audio file when a user accesses a page.
  • Upload the actual video/audio file or just the link to the video/audio file on the Web.
  • Automatically captures metadata, such as link and embed information, channels, duration, resolution, format, audio and video codecs, on upload.
  • Embed videos from the SharePoint Video Library into a SharePoint web page.
  • Set the size, whether the video/audio automatically plays, margin, style, and frame border width.
  • Link to videos/audio files across site collections and web applications from the Bamboo Video Library.
  • View all files in Standard view (default), Details view or Thumbnails view.
  • Display video thumbnails with filmstrip borders and specify the number of icons to show in each column in Thumbnails view.
  • Set the size of the player for all videos.
  • Choose to use Silverlight or Windows Media Player as the default player.
  • The following file types are supported:
    • Windows Media Video 7, 8, 9, and Advanced Profile using the .wmv file extension.
    • AVI files using the .avi file extension.
    • MP4 video files (MPEG-4 Part 2 and Part 10) using the .mp4 extension.
    • Flash video files using the .flv extension.
  • The following link types are supported:
    • http
    • mms
    • rtsp

  • How does it work?

  Bamboo SharePoint Video Library is based on the standard SharePoint Library. Like other instances of the SharePoint Library (e.g. Document Library, Picture Library, or Wiki Page Library), it retains all the standard document management capabilities you need to manage your files, including check in/check out, version control and "auditability".
  
  So once you install the SharePoint Video Library, do the following:
  
  1. Go to the site where you want to create the video library.
  2. Click the View All Site Content link in the Quick Launch bar, then click the Create button on the toolbar.
  3. From the Libraries section, click Bamboo Video Library.
  4. Start uploading video and audio files or links.
